dov20051 asked:

I can not find a nuetral and authoritative and comprehensive reference material for Native-Americans in the US. I want to know about what NA culture is like now, honestly, and without any axes to grind. Like local government, relations with the Federal government, population, religion, hierarchy, etc. Those with grudges need not respond. I am just interested in unbiased knowledge.

You will not find a single reference because Native Americans are comprised of many different Nations (500). Just like there is no single book that will cover all information about all the European nations.

You can find bibliographies in “Wikipedia”. There are many and varied articles, this is a sample.

• This is Canadian but the Tribes inhabit both counties.

This site shares a bit of the teachings of 5 different nations. The Four Direction teaching are from east to west. This site is like that.

The first one on the right side is a creation story from one nation. (very condensed) In this creation story…. man was created first. In other creation stories the woman was first.

The creation story is not taken literally, listen to the relationships, their importance and the roles.

The last one on the left talks of modern day issues of maintaining cultural practices.
